Guide to Finestrat, Nr. Benidorm, Costa Blanca

costa blanca

La Cala de Finestrat is a small bay just to the west of Benidorm. It is actually divided between the towns of Finestrat and Villajoyosa. Most people would now consider it as part of Benidorm because Benidorm has now grown right down to the borders of Cala de Finestrat. La Cala, as it's known has a small beach, which can get very popular in the summer months. There are many bars and restaurants in La Cala Finestrat of all nationalities. Whether you prefer Spanish tapas, traditional English food, or something a little more up market La Cala Finestrat has it all.

costa blancaLa Marina shopping centre is the leading centre for shopping, leisure and eating in the area of La Marina Baixa. Located in Finestrat, it is very close to the towns of Benidorm and Villajoyosa, with excellent links to the rest of the area. Its area of influence is not limited to the surrounding towns, but it has become the preferred shopping centre for Spanish and foreign residents and holidaymakers from neighbouring regions.

Its architecture and the facilities it provides make it a highly convenient place for family shopping, at the same time being very popular with young and older people thanks to its wide range of leisure facilities, restaurants and fashionable shops offering all the leading Spanish and international brands in one place.

costa blancaIt would take to visit quite a few villages to find one with such peculiar features as Finestrat. To begin with, its singular relief will take us from 0 m. of altitude on the beach to over 1.000 m. at the top of impressive Puig Campana in less than 10 Km.

Then there is its pure mediterranean landscape, almost intact, marked by hills covered with pine trees or typical cultivation trees: almond trees, olive trees and carob trees, together with small orchards where oranges, pomegranates and loquats blossom.

But it is not only its climate, its situation or its landscapes that make Finestrat a desirable place. There is also its peculiar character as a village, an old muslim farmstead, wich has been preserved without great changes, including it physical structure. To live in Finestrat is to be part of a quiet, not too busy community, where the appeal of first-rate tourist centres is very close by. Only fifteen minutes on a good road and you can be in the middle of the tourist and city hustle and bustle of Benidorm, or the calmer but always lively lifestyle of Villajollosa or Altea.

costa blancaIn Finestrat you can practise many sports, ranging from sea sports to mountain sports. There is a sports centre, a swimming pool, a pelota court and a multipurpose track/court. You can also taste international cuisine, as well as mediterranean cuisine and the most typical local dishes, such as “l’arrňs amb fessols” (rice with beans), “les tarongetes”, “la coca” (a kind of cake), an a great variety of sweet things, such “l’arrop i talladetes” (pumpkin slices cooked in very thick sugar syrup).
